Summary of Innovation

Topper industrial is featuring a new cart design for consideration for Innovation Award at ProMatDX. The cart is a Tuggable bar cart. The design was developed as a new concept to serve as a problem-solving solution to a re-occurring material handling headache. Customers of Topper Industrial were needing to unload long lengths on materials from the dock and throughout their facilities but were unable to do so because of narrow aisles and constricted floor layouts. Topper Industrial created a long, narrow cart that is heavy duty and incorporated numerous steering options. The cart has custom dimensions, narrow and long. It is a 36” x 192” cart frame. The cart is constructed of long bar stock so that it is heavy duty and able to carry longer lengths of material. The bar cart is equipped with front axle steer. Front steering means that the cart steers off of a pivot on the center point of the axle. It is extremely important to note that this means that the entire axle turns to 90 degrees. The steering is key to creating a more flexible way to maneuver such a long material. Additionally, this cart is tuggable by use of a removable towbar and equipped with fork pockets. The fork pockets are located just below the base of the towbar. When the towbar is removed, the fork tubes are exposed, and the cart is able to be driven in reverse by the use of a fork truck. The additional options for steering gives alternative adaptability in material movement. The customer is no longer restrained by how and when material can be moved considering restrictive floor layouts or by where it needs to go or what might be in the way dealing with smaller aisle widths. The cart is highly maneuverable. It is ideal for unloading and loading materials outside and steering easily and with multiple options into a building. The cart is equipped with a Heavy Duty Thrust Bearing. The machine element helps constrains relative motion to what is desired and reduces friction between the moving parts. The cart was designed with multiple lift points and D-Rings for multiple tie down locations. The bar cart is also equipped with rubber wheels pressed on the Topper heavy duty hub. The capacity of the cart is up to 20,000#.

Innovation Statement
